With “Big Birds, Small Birds” Roland Stratmann presents a complex of works that relates to current events. (The title refers to Pier Paolo Pasolini‘s film Uccelacci e Uccelini / The Hawks and the Sparrows, which deals with our seduction by ideologies). Stratmann‘s works draw attention to the re-emergence of feudal-capitalist structures and the world views of those in power supported by propaganda. 

Plush toys meet monumental memorials, lush floral arrangements meet concealing camouflage, the silhouettes of heroic figures intertwine with time measurement devices. Immersing yourself in the images allows you to travel through history and its ideological distortions. The seemingly apocalyptic threats are thwarted by curious physiognomies and grotesque shifts in scale.
